Fairview has received a grant from Missouri S&T to expand their Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program.
The S&T PLTW Grant is a one-time, $20,000 grant, specifically for the implementation of the PLTW K-5 Launch program. Fairview K-5 students already have the qualities of great designers and innovators. What PLTW Launch does is tap into their exploratory nature, engage them in learning that feels like play, and encourage them to keep discovering — now and for years to come.
PLTW Launch’s 24 interdisciplinary modules bring learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. And as students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge.
With the grant we will be able to buy a classroom set of iPads. These are necessary for the implementation of the program. We will also be able to purchase the materials for two modules per grade level. Starting in January the 5th grade students will be able to participate in the Automation and Robots module. It will likely take most of the third quarter to finish the module. During fourth quarter our 4th grade students will be discovering amazing things about the human brain in the module called Input Output Human Brain.
